Blackhawk, Director

Blackhawk (a.k.a. Peter von Brandenburg): Writer, theorist, critic, and consultant, was a prodigal art critic and curator in the 70s and 80s. In the early 90s he cofounded The Thing w/ Wolfgang Stähle and wrote the first psycho-social listing of extant and potential forms of e-commo (all since realized) including various tech-vectors, use of heroic address, i.d. morphing, avataric consciousness, etc. He has also conducted experiments to define the mediumistic envelope of cyberspace including the authoring of a novel on a public BBS. Simultaneously for a decade (late '87 -> late '97), he ran a media production company (Intercon Production) and is responsible for the seminal "Cyberpunk" docuvid and several other features (as well as numberless shorts), among them "The 8th Day" (on biotech), and "The New Medicis" (on Disney's art patronage). These have involved collaboration with individuals ranging from Neal Stephenson, to Claes Oldenburg, to Brian Eno, and a literal host of others. Until recently he authored a "column in process" on thingist mailing list. He publishes critical or theoretical texts and sometimes teaches or conducts workshops. His current consulting practice deals with what is perhaps euphemistically termed "theory of media". Recently he was involved in an exploration of indigenous cultural activity on the Net and how that related (or didn't) to contemporary fine art practice. His work exists in a continuum which encompasses critical theory and pop philosophy. In his current role with the Foundation, for the first time he is able to combine theoretical and practical criticism with his skill sets as a producer.
